In my opinion, the most important thing to look for is a contractor who will respond quickly when there is a problem. THERE WILL BE PROBLEMS. It’s just like building a house – there will be things to be addressed after the pool is completed and the contractor has been paid in full.

Talk to people who have had pools built by the contractor. Preferably people you know rather than referrals supplied to you by the contractor. I’ve heard horror stories of contractors who would not even return phone calls after the pool was completed. These situations often end up in lawsuits, and nobody wants to have to deal with that.
